Church and Convent of San Domenico

In the ancient heart of Agrigento stands the fascinating complex of San Domenico, composed of the church of the same name and the Dominican convent, dating back to the 17th century. Currently, the convent houses the Town Hall, boasting a two-level Baroque-Renaissance façade. Its majestic façade is dominated by an 18th-century portal, supported by two imposing columns that support a decorated pediment.

The church has a single nave with eight chapels, four on each side, adorned with refined 18th-century paintings. The sturdy 17th-century choir stalls are decorated with detailed friezes. The adjacent building, once part of the convent and now the Town Hall since 1867, houses the Luigi Pirandello Theater, designed by Basile. Although the façade was renovated in the last century, the theater was recently restored after a long period of neglect, revealing its magnificence once again.
