Quota Sicura has installed cage ladders at the Navy facility in Augusta
Augusta was chosen for its strategic location since the time of Frederick II of Swabia, but only after the unification of Italy was its strategic importance recognized, especially with the colonial adventure in East Africa in 1896. During the First World War, a unique airship hangar of great historical and technical value was built in Augusta.
During the 1930s, Augusta became an important naval base, with significant upgrades such as facilities, docks, and barracks. During World War II, the Augusta base played a crucial role, used for maritime reconnaissance and as a base for MAS (mass-class missile systems) and submarines. After the war, the Augusta base continued to play a strategic role within NATO.
After the war, Augusta hosted the Command School and the Anti-Submarine Training Center. From 1956, it was also the base of the 1st Helicopter Group. In 1967, it became the base of the 4th Naval Division. In 1971, the 2nd Submarine Group, with its Toti-class vessels, was transferred to Augusta. Since 2002, it has also hosted "MARISICILIA," the Maritime Military Command of Sicily, and COMFORPAT, the Coastal Surveillance and Defense Patrol Forces Command.
